Brighton High School

Cell Phone Smart Technology Policy

On Wednesday, May 2, 2025, our Brighton Board of Education adopted Board of Education Policy 5695 – STUDENTS AND PERSONAL ELECTRONIC DEVICES.

To comply with NYS Education Law 2803 and our Board of Education Policy 5695, Brighton High School has developed an implementation plan that we are sharing with all families and students today. It outlines that students will store their devices in their school issued locker from 7:45-2:47 each day, that we will help students navigate their combination lock, if need be, and what the consequences will be for violations of the policy.

Please see attached document titled, “Distraction Free Learning Brighton High School – Internet Enabled Device Ban from Bell-to-Bell.”

  • 1st violation – student’s device will be confiscated, stored in the main office for the day, and given to student at the end of the day. Families will be contacted, and a disciplinary referral will be generated.

  • 2nd violation – student’s device will be confiscated, stored in the main office for the day, families will be contacted, and a disciplinary referral will be generated. Families will be required to come to BHS to pick up their student’s device.

  • All subsequent violations will be handled on a case-by-case basis with the student, family, and administration, following a progressive discipline model and educational approach on the proper use of technology.
