Welcome to the BHS Health Office
The nurses at BHS are Maria Kozma, RN and Anne Weber, RN. Our office provides health services for students, and we act as advocates, liaisons, and consultants on health-related issues for students, families, and school personnel. We also help support an optimum physical, mental, emotional, and social climate for all students and staff.

2026-2027 New York State Health Requirements
All students entering 9th and 11th grade are required by New York State to have an updated Physical Exam on file in the Health Office.
The physical can be dated from 9/1/25 forward to the current date. Please fax to (585)242-7529, mail, email, or bring to the Health Office.
Please schedule an appointment with your child's medical provider as soon as possible.
Reminders for the 2026–2027 School Year from the BHS Health Office
Meningitis Vaccine Requirement
For students entering 12th grade, two doses of the meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MenACWY) are mandatory:
- The second dose must be administered on or after the student's 16th birthday.
- Students who received their initial dose at age 16 or older do not require an additional dose.
- Please note that the Meningitis B vaccine, while potentially given concurrently, is not a requirement for school attendance.
- Vaccination records must be submitted to the BHS Health Office at bcsd_bhs_nurses@bcsd.org or faxed to 585-242-7529.
New York State Physicals (for athletes)
- A physical examination on the official NYS form, dated within 12 months of the sports registration start date, is required. Forms can be found on the Brighton Central School District - Health Forms website: Brighton Central School District - Health Forms
- Fall 2026 registration: Physicals must be dated August 1, 2025, or later.
- Spring 2027 registration: Physicals must be dated March 1, 2026, or later.
- Ensure the pediatrician has checked the "Family Cardiac History review" and "Student may participate in all activities without restriction" boxes.
- For students with asthma, allergies, seizures, diabetes, or other medical conditions affecting athletic participation, please provide an Emergency Care Plan signed by both the physician and parent, along with self-carry/self-administer forms if applicable.
- Athletic registration for Fall sports begins on July 27, 2026.
New York State Physicals (for non-athletes)
- Per NYS mandates, students in grades 9 and 11 who do not participate in sports must have a physical examination form on file at the high school health office. - For students with asthma, allergies, seizures, diabetes, or other medical conditions, please provide an Emergency Care Plan signed by both the physician and parent, along with self-carry/self-administer forms if applicable.
Medications at School
For students requiring prescription medications:
- A doctor's note detailing the medical condition, medication name, dosage, and frequency is required.
- Controlled substances (e.g., Methylphenidate, Vyvanse, Dextroamphetamine) must be kept in the health office and administered by the school nurse. Self-carry is not permitted for these medications.
- For non-controlled medications, students may self-carry if a doctor's note specifically grants permission for self-administration.
- For over-the-counter (OTC) medications (e.g., Ibuprofen, Tylenol), please submit the OTC form signed by both a parent and a doctor. Field Trips
For students participating in field trips:
- Teachers will distribute the necessary field trip forms.
- If you indicate "YES" that your child will need medication during the trip:
- List all required medications and ensure the form is signed by both the doctor and parent.
- Controlled substances must remain with the chaperone and will be dispensed according to the doctor's instructions.
Medical Conditions
For students with medical diagnoses such as diabetes, allergies, asthma, seizures, etc.:
- A new Emergency Care Plan, signed by both the parent and doctor, is required at the start of each school year.
- If the student self-carries their rescue medications, a self-carry/self-administer order signed by the doctor is necessary.
- If rescue medication must be stored in the health office:
- Provide a doctor's order specifying the medication name, dosage, and frequency.
- Bring the medication to the health office in its original, labeled container.
Medication Pick-Up (End of 2025–2026 School Year)
For students with medications stored in the health office during the current school year, parents are encouraged to pick up any remaining medications on June 17, June 18, and June 22, 2026, from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
Medication Drop-Off & Summer Hours (For the 2026–2027 School Year)
You may drop off medications and required forms on the following dates and times:
- July 6, 2026 – August 14, 2026: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
- September 2, 2026 – September 4, 2026: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
