The nurses at BHS are Maria Kozma, RN and Anne Weber, RN. Our office provides health services for students, and we act as advocates, liaisons, and consultants on health-related issues for students, families, and school personnel. We also help support an optimum physical, mental, emotional, and social climate for all students and staff.

2024-2025 New York State Health Requirements
All students entering 9th and 11th grade are required by New York State to have an updated Physical Exam on file in the Health Office.
The physical can be dated from 9/1/24 forward to the current date. Please fax to (585)242-7529, mail, email, or bring to the Health Office.
Please schedule an appointment with your child's medical provider as soon as possible.

Meningitis Vaccine Requirement:
For students entering 12th grade, two (2) doses of the meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MenACWY) are mandatory:
- The second dose must be administered on or after the student's 16th birthday.
- Students who received their initial dose at age 16 or older do not require an additional dose.
- Please note that the Meningitis B vaccine, while potentially given concurrently, is not a requirement for school attendance.
- Vaccination records must be submitted to the BHS Health Office at: bcsd_bhs_nurses@bcsd.org or faxed to 585-242-7529.
New York State Physical:
For students participating in athletics:
- A physical examination on the official NYS form, dated within 12 months of the sports registration start date, is required. Brighton Central School District - Health Forms
- Fall 2025 registration: Physicals dated July 21, 2024, or later.
- Spring 2026 registration: Physicals dated February 27, 2025, or later.
- Ensure the pediatrician has checked the "Family Cardiac History review" and "Student may participate in all activities without restriction" boxes.
- For students with asthma, allergies, seizures, diabetes, or other medical conditions affecting athletic participation, please provide an Emergency Care Plan signed by both the doctor and parent, along with self-carry/self-administer forms if applicable.
- Athletic Registration for Fall sports begin on July 21, 2025.
Medications at School:
For students requiring prescription medications:
- A doctor's note detailing the medical condition, medication name, dosage, and frequency is required.
- Controlled substances (e.g., Methylphenidate, Vyvanse, Dextroamphetamine) must be kept in the health office and administered by the school nurse. Self-carry is not permitted for these medications.
- For non-controlled medications, students may self-carry if a doctor's note specifically grants permission for self-administration.
- For over-the-counter medications (e.g., Ibuprofen, Tylenol), please submit the OTC form signed by both a parent and a doctor. This form is valid for one calendar year and is available on the school’s website: Brighton Central School District - Health Forms
