Entering the Workforce

If it is your intention to join the work force upon graduation, there are a number of things you can do to explore your options:

 

  • Review your career results from Naviance Student. Throughout your years in Counseling Seminar you took a Career Interest Inventory, Personality Type Assessment, Multiple Intelligence Assessment, Career Cluster Finder, and Strength Explorer- all of which provided you with a list of careers that may be of interest to you based on your results.  They provide detailed information on what skills are expected in a job, amount of education required, typical salary and more.
  • Schedule an appointment with Mrs. Stern- BHS College & Career Counelor. She is a great resource on jobs available to students during and after high school.
  • Visit the Occupational Outlook Handbook (OOH) online at U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics . The OOH is a career resource offering information on hundreds of occupations.  Each occupational profile describes the duties required by the occupation, the work environment of that occupation, the typical education and training needed to enter the occupation, the median pay for workers in the occupation, and the job outlook into the next 10 years for that occupation.

  • UNICON Rochester - Apprenticeship Programs

    Rochester has many opportunities for acclaimed training programs - from high school and secondary education courses to union apprenticeship programs - which serve as great stepping stones into the construction industry. Invest in your future by investing in your career training.

     

    Unionized construction trades have the highest skills in industry training, having programs that date back to over 70 years. The building construction trades unions maintain the gold standard in training and development. Check out some of their programs.
