A Message from the Superintendent Regarding Congressional Debate

Posted Date: 10/25/24 (3:01 PM)

Dear Members of the Brighton School Community,

Today, BHS hosted a debate between candidates running to represent the 25th Congressional District in Congress and we could not be more excited about what transpired.

Congressman Joe Morelle and candidate Gregg Sadwick discussed a variety of issues relevant to the community. Social studies classes had collected feedback from students on what topics they’d like to hear more about and Executive Council President Evan Hoefen, Vice President Maya Masceri, and Vice President Maisen Hochheimer asked the candidates the questions. Social studies teacher Dan Wilmot served as the moderator.

Our students were incredibly engaged, respectful, and thoughtful. The candidates engaged in civil, respectful discourse. They had an intelligent and meaningful discussion that provided our students with a great example of how people can disagree without being disagreeable or destructive. It was a great moment for young citizens to be a part of.

Thank you to the candidates for attending this event and the Social Studies Department for organizing the event.

Kevin
